The stomach flu seems to have made its way through our whole house, now! Chris stayed home today because we were both up all night. Thankfully, Rylie made it through the night just fine, although she still isn't 100% today. But, as usual, she is fighting through it all with little to no complaining.
There once was a time when Chris and I would have simply stayed in bed all day feeling very sorry for ourselves. Or parked our butts on the couch in front of the tv. That is a thing of the past now that Rylie is around! Luckily, like I said, she made it much easier on us... She was quite content playing with minimal interaction from us (we sat on the outskirts of her toys just watching). She also took several long naps so we could all catch up on some much needed rest.
I'm hopeful that this plague is just a 24 hour kind of thing... Chris and I seem to be on the mend, tho the aches and chills still raise their ugly heads from time to time.
I apologize for another boring post... We should be back on our feet again soon and have some more interesting things to talk about! I've got a few photo sessions lined up for friends, a couple play dates next week (had to clear our schedule this week because of the plague), and we are heading to South Bend in 2 weeks to watch Connie's play. See?! Lots more to talk about soon!

The plague...
There hasn't been a whole lot going on around here lately to report about. Rylie is being as cute as always... She is still working very hard to figure out the whole crawling situation and there may or may not be a third tooth coming through (I'm not about to stick my hands in that mouth of hers! Those 2 bottom teeth are SHARP!!).
I was lucky to get a night out with a group of amazing mom's on Thursday nights. We were in stitches laughing so hard all night and sharing so many stories, all of which shall remain between us :-) Before we knew it it was about 10:15...and we didn't even open the bottles of wine that were brought! I can only imagine the funnier things that would come out if we had had a few glasses of wine onboard!
And last night, Chris and I went to Matt and Jenn's house to let Rylie and Jack get some play time together. They are too cute! At one point, Chris and Matt were cooking (okay, let's not get it twisted...Matt was cooking and Chris was getting in the way! ha) and Jenn and I were sitting on the couch while Rylie and Jack were sitting up by themselves playing and chatting. It has been so amazing to see these little ones grow so much in such a short amount of time! The last month has probably been the best...they are finally starting to interact with each other. They've got lots of play time together in their future :-) Jenn and I enjoyed a few drinks and we all played several board games. I like those kinds of nights out!
Today, however, Rylie has been feeling a little under the weather (though you wouldn't tell it by her smiley face and giggles!). When she woke this morning, there was quite a lot of spit up in her crib and in her hair, so she got a bath in the morning. I didn't think a whole lot about it, because she did eat a whole lot yesterday (she just kept opening her mouth for more!), but she didn't really eat anything too out of the ordinary. She went back down for a nap only about an hour and a half after waking up, and that nap lasted two and a half hours! Again, I wasn't too shocked by this either, because we did have her out until about 10 pm last night at Matt and Jenn's (she was a trooper!). But after that nap, she kept making some funky burpy sounds and had some rather interesting diapers. Sure enough, she eventually vomited into my hand, all over my pants, and down the side of the couch. Poor thing! But again, besides a few naaaaaasty diapers and this vomiting episode, you would never know anything was wrong. We just tried to keep her hydrated all day with her bottles or some Pedialyte. Hopefully this little bug passes quickly. I actually wasn't too well on Saturday morning (not so fun to be awake from 3:30am to 5:30am when your kid is sleeping soundly!), but thought that it might have just been the fish we had for dinner... Let's hope it doesn't find Chris!

Fun and games...
Well, we made it safely to West Lafayette, IN on Saturday. We got quite a bit of snow on Friday (6 inches??), so we delayed the trip and stayed home Friday night to give the snow plows a chance to clear the roads. Rylie was also nice enough to give me about an hour to shovel the driveway on Friday afternoon (got about 2/3 done)... since this now seems to be my job while the baby is sleeping, I think I'm going to put in an order for short naps on snow days :-)
The weather was definitely much better on Saturday, though still super cold! It was overcast where we live, but not long after we started driving, Chris was wishing desperately that he had his sunglasses; the sun was shining and creating an awful glare on all the freshly fallen snow! Pretty, but hard to drive in.
Once we got to the grandparents' house and had lunch, we spent the afternoon napping (Rylie) and putting a puzzle together. Grandpa Morre and Chris ran out somewhere before dinner (apparently Grandpa had to blacksmith something "really quick"), and Grandma Morre and Connie ran a few errands while Roy, Me, and Rylie just hung out at home. Roy and I managed to put the last piece of the puzzle together (the blue sky pieces all looked the same!) at the very last second when we saw headlights come in the driveway - Grandpa and Chris were back home with the pizza order. Yumm! And of course, we had Birthday cake for the January Birthdays (yes, they made their own cake, too! Think I'm fired as daughter-in-law...ha!)
On Sunday, we finally managed to get some time so that Chris could go sledding...he has been wanting to do this forever!! I don't even think he got to go at all last year, because my pregnant butt wasn't about to join him...it was so much fun this time!! Check it out...we've got pictures and videos:

After weekends like this, I am definitely glad we live close enough to drive (dare I say it, sometimes I wish we were even closer?! Hehe)... The winter certainly makes travel a little more difficult, but I'm hoping that we will be able to see a lot more of our family this spring/summer/fall! Here's to hoping gas prices don't sky rocket again, I suppose!

One more thing...
I'd like to add "Snow Blower" to the list of things we are saving up for!!! Looks like we'll be attempting the drive to he great grandparents' house tomorrow!
On our way to {great}grandparents' house...
We are heading to see Grandma and Grandpa (Great, to Rylie!) this weekend. Oma and Pop-Pop (Connie and Roy) are also planning on meeting us down there so that we can celebrate the two January birthdays - Grandma Morre's and Connie's. We are planning on leaving tonight after Chris is done with work, but we are supposed to be getting a whole lot of snow right around the same time! So, we're playing it by ear (or eyes)... If it's looking too bad we won't even attempt it tonight and just wait until tomorrow when the roads should be cleared and it'll be safer for everyone!
We haven't been up to a whole lot lately, hence the lack of blog posts. We have hosted several play dates here and gone to some others' houses to play. I love the new mommy friends I have made...they will certainly help us all get through these tough winter months together in one piece!
Rylie is sooooo close to crawling! I think she may be holding out until she sees her grandparents this weekend to show off! We'll see :-) I've got the video camera ready!
I haven't been on here much lately because my new obsession of last week has been Budgeting! I figure a new year, a new start. I found Mint.com and it is a very user friendly financial/budgeting tool. I believe it is made by the makers of Quicken, but is a "lite" version. I have attempted to use Quicken before, but it was so complex that I got bored of trying to figure it out so that it worked for us. And Mint can be accessed from anywhere and they have several Android and Apple apps, so we can always see where we stand when it comes to budgeting. So far, I love it! Chris has always been a lot more mindful of where our money comes in and goes (seems to be doing a lot more going these days!). And with me at home with Rylie (arguably the most important job!!) for the time being, this program has really helped me to see the bigger picture and help us to set savings goals.
We are constantly catching ourselves saying "we'll have to save for this or that"...or "we'll get/do that after the bonus check comes"... well we are trying very hard not to do that now. Chris' bonus checks are usually "spent" on many different things before we even get them. Hopefully by starting our budget, any bonus or birthday money will be an added surprise that we can actually use for things that we are saving for:
- Patio and landscaping
- Trips to North Carolina, Maine, and Bermuda this year
- Playroom furniture/decorations
- Finishing touches for Guest room (lamps, side tables, etc)
- Miscellaneous "toys" for ourselves
- Rylie's tuition!
- ...and lots more
It definitely has helped to see how much money we need to save per month even just for the trips we are planning for the year. And by having a list of the things we actually do want (not necessary in any prioritized order) written down in black and white, it helps to remember our goals. Hopefully by using this program we will stay ahead of the game!

Here are some photos from our trip outside with Rylie's sled last Saturday. It was a gorgeous day! We actually went for a long walk before the sled ride with Rylie in her stroller.

More Home Projects!
We completed several other DIY home projects yesterday...I'm just so happy that I didn't "lose interest" or give up on any of the ideas. Thankfully, they were all relatively easy to do :-) See below...

There's No Day Like A Snow Day!
Mark this down...it's January 12, 2012 and we only just had our first real snow day today! When we woke up at 6am this morning there was nothing, but before heading out to run some errands and go to the gym at 8am, there was already snow on the ground and it was falling fast!
Snow definitely changes how we go about our day! And add in a baby...aye yai yai!! Everything takes eeevvveeennnn loooonnngggeeerrrrrrr! It's a lot more stressful driving with a baby in the snow. Do I dress myself for the snow and then the baby (and then be frustrated because I am now all hot and bothered from wearing so many layers inside a heated house)?! Is it better to take the baby out of her car seat to run errands, or leave her in and feel bad because she looks like a smushed banana?!
The list goes on...Snow and I have a little love/hate relationship!
We did get the chance to take Miss Rylie out for a bit (about 3 mins!) to try out her new sled! How fun ;-). It was definitely a little too windy out there for her, so the fun was short lived. Can't wait to go out again soon!

Recent DIY projects...
So, I have mentioned the website PINTEREST to you before {Grandma: don't worry yourself with this site! haha}. And...well...besides some delicious recipes that I have both tried and intend to try, I have also found lots of inspiration for crafts and DIY projects to do. I showed you the work in progress of my headboard for the main guest bedroom a few days ago. Well, folks, I actually finished it!! And I like the way it turned out! AND, it was way cheaper (under $40) than buying one from the furniture store! I've already put in my order with Santa Clause for some real power tools...we only have a hammer, a few screws/nails and a drill!
And after that, I moved on to a really easy project... Baby Scarves! And they double as a bib and are wayyyyy cuter. {Oh, and the model is pretty darn adorable, too, don't ya think?!} Again, so simple and cheap to make (each one probably cost me about $1 to make and only took about 5 minutes each)
Next up, I decided to make a "mobile"/"chandelier" for Rylie's room. We have been wanting to change the light fixture in her room because the builders just put up a pretty cheap, temporary bulb shaped light cover. This little project was a little more tedious to make than the scarves (had to cut out all the circles, glue them together on the string, then trim the edges and hang them on the wood loop thingy), but all the materials cost me about $3.
And I still have numerous crafts on my list to do!
- A "chandelier" for the guest room like the one above, but made with shells and natural colored string.
- Some staggered/"hanging" shelving for the walls
- Wall decorations
- A chair rail picture display for the wall going up the stairs
- Window sash made of linen-look fabric for the guest room (pretty much done, just need to hem the ends).
...and the list goes on and on!! I'll keep you posted on the progress of these projects :-)
